Labour moves to Back the Apple

The Labour party has begun a campaign to save the Agricultural Wages Board featuring Tony Robinson.

MPs have voted to begin the abolition of the Agricultural Wages Board but Labour has embarked on its Back the Apple campaign with a new video.

The social media campaign hopes to stop the process of scrapping the board.

Blackadder and Time Team star Tony Robinson voices a video below which tells of tough times for farmers and growers and the workers on farm.

The abolition of the board has been largely welcomed by those in the fresh produce industry in order to gain equality in pay rates across the workforce.

The AWB is likely to be scrapped in England in the long term - a situation growers in Scotland would like to mirror.
