Marks & Spencer is reported to be handing out around £60 million as a "golden thank you" to its 63,000 staff who have turned the company around in the past two years.

The one-off bonus will include the 55,000 shopfloor staff who Stuart Rose, M&S chief executive, believes were integral to the chain’s comeback.

The retailer is yet to confirm the reports, but a board meeting in the next fortnight is expected to rubber-stamp the bonus.

Since Rose joined the company in May 2004, sales and profits have climbed.
