Monaghan is promoting its UV-enhanced mushrooms to sun-starved Scots after weeks of dull weather as it celebrates 25 years of supply into Asda

Mushroom supplier Monaghan is promoting its line of Vitamin D-enhanced mushrooms in Scotland after weeks of dull weather limit natural sunshine levels.
“With Scotland’s climate, particularly after such an overcast winter, lots of people just aren’t getting enough of the ‘sunshine vitamin’,” said Monaghan’s chief commercial officer, Adam Wilson.
“At Monaghan, we’ve fine-tuned our process to enhance Vitamin D2 content, producing a ‘Vitamin D’ variety – one of seven lines we supply to Asda.”
Monaghan has developed its own UV treatment, with 100g of its enhanced mushrooms able to provide 100 per cent of the recommended daily amount of Vitamin D.
“They offer a simple, everyday way for people to add more Vitamin D to their diets, and they’re available 365 days of the year,” said Wilson.
Monaghan has been supplying Asda in Scotland from its base in East Lothian for over 25 years, now supplying 15 tonnes a week.
“Long-term partnerships like this one are incredibly important not just to Asda as a business, but to our customers,” said Asda Scotland local buying manager, Ashley Connolly.
