Morrisons gives away cash

Morrisons is to give away cash in store as part of a multi-million pound competition in order to get more shoppers through the door.

Morrisons Millions launched today with more than £2 million in the prize kitty. Until 30 October, every Morrisons customer will be entered into a daily draw for every £1 they spend in store with three customers-a-day in every store scooping a £100 prize and two £25,000 prizes on offer.

The supermarket took out national newspaper advertising to back the promotion as battles on price promotion intensify and the fight for shoppers between the supermarkets continues to hot up.

The Bradford-based retailer said it has been planning the initative since June and it has been configuring its cash till systems to produce the numbers that are entered into the daily draw.

Customers who spend £20 in store get 20 chances to win and their Morrisons Millions number will be printed on their till receipt. Winners will be able to see if their number has won on the Morrisons website or in stores.

Richard Lancaster, corporate marketing and operations director for Morrisons said: “At Morrisons we know how hard it is for our customers given the worsening economic situation.

“With Christmas fast approaching, Morrisons Millions is designed to give some much needed relief to 20,000 hard pressed families, and this in addition to our usual low prices and great deals.’’
