Jane Speakman speaking at the Re:fresh conference last month

Morrisons fresh produce trading controller has moved to take charge of its new flower business.

Jane Speakman has become managing director designate for horticulture at the retailer following the acquisition of large-scale wholesale flower business Flower World.

The move leaves the fresh produce department without a fresh produce boss with trading directors Andy Garton and James Judd reporting directly to Chris Walker, commercial director for fresh foods.

Speakman will work closely with Flower World MD Peter Woodhouse in beginning her work heading up the supermarkets’ flower, plants and garden centre operations.

Flower World generated sales of £33.7 million in the year to August 2010 and was bought by Morrisons on 9 June.

Peter Woodhouse, MD of Flower World, said: “The integration provides a very exciting future for Flower World. Morrisons strong commitment to the category coupled with our product knowledge and innovation means Morrisons customers can look forward to an even better offering in store.”
