A leading Northern Irish mushroom producer has won a listing in Tesco for its prepared mushroom range.
Hughes Mushrooms’ 'FilledFullOf' range includes four flavours - Garlic Cream Cheese, Leek & Wensleydale, Bacon & Rosemary and Tomato, Chilli & Feta – and will now be stocked in 15 Northern Irish Tesco stores.
Launched earlier this year, the range also secured a highly commended award in this year’s UK Quality Food Awards 2015.
“As one of the UK’s largest mushroom producers, we are delighted to share the news that our own brand FilledFullOf range has made it into Tesco,” said director Emmet Hughes.
“We have big plans for the range and it is a great start to secure a prestigious contract; allowing us to really showcase the quality and unique flavours of the locally-grown range with customers across Northern Ireland.”
Hughes Mushrooms said it has doubled its turnover in the last four years to £29 million, and now employs almost 100 people at its main packing facility in County Tyrone.
Working with a network of 25 growers, the company also supplies over 240 tonnes of fresh mushrooms a week to Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and Aldi in the UK.
Caoimhe Mannion, Tesco Northern Ireland’s marketing manager, said: “The FilledFullOf products are part of an award-winning range; further enhancing the quality of the local products we offer in store.
“We pride ourselves on the support we show local producers and the Hughes’ contract will benefit more than 25 growers in Northern Ireland. It’s an exciting partnership, full of potential for future product development. We look forward to seeing what other fantastic flavour combinations are planned.”
