National Vegetarian Week 2004 a success

All previous media coverage and circulation figures were surpassed as numbers reached close to one million. Retailers, restaurants, pubs and cafes distributed more than 500,000 fliers and 70,000 posters. Over 200 businesses took advantage of the week by holding product and book launches, special menus and held dedicated events across the UK.

Retailers also backed the week with their own instore promotions - Marks & Spencer launched four new vegetarian meals, Waitrose produced National Vegetarian Week recipe cards and Sainsbury’s saw sales of organic Portabella mushrooms bearing National Vegetarian Week stickers increase by 15 per cent during the week.

Next year’s week will be held from May 23-29. For information on how to become an official partner for National Vegetarian Week 2005, contact matt@vegsoc.org.
