Exports of Israeli vegetables from the north western Negev region are up seven per cent from 2004/05, weighing in this season at 78,000 tonnes.
The export volume this season is at a record level, according to Heshy Rubin, manager of the Maon Agricultural Enterprise, which incorporates 13 kibbutzim in the region. The country’s largest producer of vegetables exports its products through Agrexco.
Potatoes continue to be the main export product, with 240,000t sent out this year, including both winter and spring yield.
Israeli exports of carrots were up 212 per cent this year to 7,750t. This is as a result of a significant rise in supply to Russia and an increase in the export of organically-grown carrots to western Europe.
The country also exported 4,600t of radishes and 400t of parsnips.
