Andy Robertson has been appointed as the NFU’s new director general and is set to start this autumn.
Having previously served as Scotland’s chief agricultural officer, Robertson has a strong background in farming.
NFU president Peter Kendall is delighted with the appointment. He said: “I absolutely believe that Andy is the right person to lead the NFU at a time of great challenges for the industry and I look forward to working with him.”
Robertson, who is currently working as assistant director for transport and environment at East Sussex County Council, added: “I am delighted with this opportunity to lead the NFU and to work around something I passionately believe in and care about.
"I look forward to working with the NFU's members and staff to promote and support British farming."
