Hannes Martin: proud to back processors

Hannes Martin: proud to back processors

A new category has been added to this year’s Re:fresh Awards, as organisers widen the scope of the industry’s leading annual awards event to include as many of the fresh produce industry’s outstanding performers as possible.

The MVS Food Services Processor of the Year award is a new sub-category in the Packer of the Year category, and will recognise the best processor of produce in the UK. Judges are looking for entrants that supply wholesalers, retailers at all levels, foodservice or all of these.

MVS, which supplies grapes, top fruit and citrus to the UK’s foodservice industry, also sponsors the Foodservice Supplier of the Year category. The company’s md, Hannes Martin, said processors are a part of the industry that he feels often get underestimated in terms of their importance to the overall picture.

He said: “Processors are responsible for a huge amount of the work that makes this industry so successful.

“The consumer understandably takes their efforts for granted, but there is no reason why we as an industry should do the same. I feel this award will put the best processors in the limelight where they deserve to be and am delighted to give it my backing.”

Entrants for this new category can download the entry criteria at www.refresh.eu, call Angie Stuart at the Fresh Produce Consortium on 01733 237117 or email angie@freshproduce.org.uk

The closing date for entries is 9 April and a shortlist of finalists will be released in advance of the event, which takes place on 13 May, at the InterContinental London Park Lane.
