The market will serve Turkey, Romania and Russia

New Russian wholesale market set to open

A new wholesale market is to open in Russia as part of a joint venture with Turkish companies.

The project has also received state backing in an attempt to prevent lost taxes through smuggling.

Rostov Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Terminal (FORT), operating in Rostov-Aksay Region, is a Turkish-Russion joint venture company.

The market is under construction and is due to open in December with 188 sales units, 104 of which have cold storage.

The terminal is situated 350m from Baku Highway, one kilometre from the M4 International Moscow Highway and 3.5 kilometres to the port.

The market provides exporters communication facilities with its modern office in Aksay and is easily accessible thanks to the directive hoardings all the way along Moscow-Baku Highway.

The FORT project, already reportedly the biggest investment in the Rostov Region and the most contemporary terminal in Russia, gained additional strategic importance and value especially after Soçi Terminal in the region was shut down.

In a press statement, the JV said: “The designing process of our terminal took more than a year. In the due course, the general concept of our terminal was developed into a flawless project in terms of work flow and functionality with the collaboration of expert, high calibre consultants in the field, who thoroughly studied existing problems of the exporters, and various fruit and vegetable terminals around the world.

“Our project is being greatly supported by local government and necessary measures are taken in order to prevent smuggled or off the book sales.”
