Coir producer Botanicoir has launched a new initiative to help growers demonstrate the sustainability credentials of coir substrates and help meet retailer and certification requirements.

Beyond Sustainable, which was unveiled last week at Fruit Focus 2026, highlights environmental and social projects from within Botanicoir’s supply chain, aiming to provide greater transparency across the coir industry.

Botanicoir said the move has been introduced as growers come under increasing pressure to provide evidence of their environmental and social performance.

Information gathered through the Beyond Sustainable scheme can be used directly in sustainability reporting for certifications such as LEAF Marque, the company said.

“Growers are already implementing sustainable practices across their businesses,” said Botanicoir director, Samantha Balasuriya.

“The challenge is increasingly about demonstrating and evidencing those actions. Beyond Sustainable is designed to provide growers with the information and support they need to report with confidence and meet evolving retailer expectations.”

The company’s environmental scientist, Naomi Gunasekara, said: “From supporting local communities and investing in environmental projects to improving transparency and developing resources that help growers meet sustainability requirements, we’re taking action where it matters most.”
