NFT grabs top Asda title

One of the UK’s leading providers of time-critical logistics services for the food and retail manufacturing sectors, NFT has walked away with the top title of Carrier of the Year at the first-ever Asda Carrier Awards.

NFT scooped the award at a gala ceremony in Leeds attended by more than 350 representatives from 40 different supply chain service providers. NFT was also named Primary Carrier of the Year at the event and commended by the judging panel for its commitment to staff development, customer service excellence, IT investment and environmental best practice.

NFT, which has provided primary logistics services for Asda for nearly two decades, distributes around 30,000 pallets of chilled food each week into the food retailer’s eight UK chilled distribution centres for onward delivery to more than 300 stores across the country. The business also consolidates and despatches products to the supermarket’s Northern Ireland depot.

Robert Place, Asda’s primary operations manager and a member of the judging panel, said: “NFT is a very worthy winner due to the dedication and commitment from its employees. Understanding the needs of Asda’s Chilled Distribution Centres and collaborating to reduce food miles, as well as costs, has been consistent throughout 2008. The pressure is on to continue to drive this success through 2009, but I have every confidence that NFT will exceed expectations.”

David Frankish, chief executive of NFT, added: “We have been working extremely hard over the past 25 years to set industry-leading standards in primary food distribution. Being named Asda’s National Carrier of the Year is a highly valued recognition of this commitment to best practice and our ability to deliver both a great service and a cost-effective solution to meet the retailer’s customer pledge of value and choice.”
