NFU appoints horticultural advisor

The NFU has appointed Dr Chris Hatfield as horticulture advisor on fruit, protected crops and ornamentals. Hatfield joins the NFU from Defra where he spent almost five years as the agri-environment advisor for Northamptonshire and prior to that was a researcher at HRI Wellesbourne working on insect pests of field crops and ornamentals.

He said: “It’s good to be back in the horticulture sector and I’m looking forward to working with NFU members and industry stakeholders.”

Commenting on Hatfield’s appointment, chief horticulture advisor, Phil Hudson, said: “We are delighted to have Chris join the team. He has a strong background in horticulture and a good knowledge of the farming industry in general… he will be a real asset to the advisory team at the NFU.”
