The NFU is to compile a series of weekly reports for the rest of the harvest season, giving growers and farmers key information in order to combat what is now universally being described as the ‘worst harvest season in living memory’.

The reports are to be available online, at the NFU’s website, and are subdivided into groups.

They reveal the key problems in every region, ranging from ruined hay and flattened corn, through to the complete loss of crops of potatoes, oilseeds and vegetables.

In the South East report, for instance, the NFU document says that ‘top fruit growers are the worst hit in parts of Maidstone with the wild weather claiming large chunks of crops. One grower reports that 60 percent of his crop has been written off in the mass hail storm. Last time hail was seen in this part of the world was 22 years ago.”

The reports will be updated throughout the summer.
