Seed producer Nunhems was showing off its expanded multileaf salad range at Fruit Logistica last week.
Uwe Dijkshoorn, communications manager, said the company is currently trialling a red variety of its one-cut lettuce following the successful trials of green multileaf.
“The concept is simple - one cut, less waste, combined with a long shelf life,” said Dijkshoorn.
The red multileaf is undergoing grower trials all across Europe, he added, and there were a number of other new varieties in the pipeline, including red oak, red batavia, blond, novita and dark multileaf.
