Philip Palmer of importer DG Fruit UK Ltd has died at the age of just 42.

Phil suffered a heart attack on Wednesday last week and died early on Friday morning.

He started in the trade 25 years ago in New Covent Garden with Southside, before joining RE Jenkinson and then Fyffes.

After five years at the market, he moved to Fyffes’s Regents Park import and direct sales office and from there to Hart & Friedmann, then Redbridge, before joining DG Fruit three years ago.

Chris Rowe, managing director at DG Fruit, led the tributes to his colleague and best friend: “We first met at Hart & Friedmann and since then have worked side by side for the past 20 years.

“Phil (Tokyo) was loved by all that ever met him, or even just as a voice on the phone. His quick wit and banter will be sorely missed by everyone that knew him. In 20 years together, a day never passed without laughter, however difficult.”

FPJ’s condolences to Phil’s wife Lis and daughters Tamsin and Jodie.

Phil’s funeral has been arranged for 11.30am on 2 June at St Nicholas Church, Chislehurst.

Phil had a love of all things military and his chosen charity was always Help for Heroes. Anyone wishing to send flowers or donate to Help for Heroes in memory of Phil is asked to contact SA Albin & Sons, Sidcup.
