A co-operative of more than 900 fruit growers who own Ocean Spray have rejected a bid for their operations from Pepsi Co.

Fifty-two per cent of Ocean Spray’s members voted against the offer from the world’s number two maker of soft drinks. The bid would have seen the soft drink giant take control of a joint venture with the growers.

Pepsi’s Tropicana is among Ocean Spray’s biggest competitors along with Minute Maid, owned by Coca-Cola.
