Pakistan has seen a significant increase in its vegetable exports in the last year, with fruit also enjoying a growth in the sector.

The export of fruit and vegetables from the country registered an increase of 3.1 per cent and 12.2 per cent respectively in the last eight month compared to the same period last year, reports the Daily Times.

Exports of fruit increased by 3.1 percent in July-March 2008-09 compared to the same period in the previous year, according to figures released by the Federal Bureau of Statistics.

Vegetable exports rose by 12.2 per cent compared with the same period last year, as the sector continued to grow.

Volumes in the last eight months are recorded at 366,608 tonnes with a total cost of $125.8 million (£86.4m), compared to 350,658t of exports amounting to $122m during July-March 2007-08.
