Peroxyacetic (peracetic) acid is to be given essential use in the UK. Although it is not being supported through the European pesticide review, the NFU explained in its latest newsletter that the granting of essential use status will allow the active to be used on flower bulbs, potato tubers and disinfection of glasshouses, warehouses (including potato stores) and agricultural tools and equipment until December 2010.

Examples of products which contain peroxyacetic acid include Jet 5 and Sorgene 5. Both products also contain hydrogen peroxide.
