Gimme an A, gimme a P, gimme a P, gimme a P, gimme an L, gimme an E…APPLE!

This could be the clarion call behind the new Cheerfull Gold apple launched last week.

The bi-coloured apple is being promoted at British Cheerleaders’ Association (BCA) events, with samples given out at the Southern Classic Cheerleading and Dance competition in Eastbourne next month.

The apple, a Cox and Golden Delicious cross, was launched at the National Fruit Show at Kent Showground in Maidstone by licensee JR Breach last week.

Raised at Chittenden Orchards in Staplehurst, Kent in 1979 from an open-pollinated Cox, a subsequent DNA test made in 2009 showed that the Cox had been pollinated by a Golden Delicious.

JR Breach owner John Breach explained: “While the new variety exhibits many of the high quality attributes of its two parents, it is quite different to both and, consequently, has its own unique selling points.”

The apple is high in sugar with a brix level of 12-14, has long shelf life, is resistant to mouldy core and reacts well to long storage.
