RB Organics installs new washline

RB Organics has announced the introduction of a new washline at its plant in Yaxley, Peterborough. The washline, which cost more than £1.2 million, can de-stone, wash and grade twenty tonnes of organic carrots and eight tonnes of organic parsnips in just one hour.

Dennis Bean, operations director said: “We are constantly looking for ways to remain at the forefront of technology and innovation, and believe this washline to be the most advanced organic facility in the country. This line should give RB Organics competitive advantage in terms of product quality, unit cost and closer grading parameters.”

The washline incorporates a cyclone de-stoning system, water transport of material and ëJacuzzi' first-stage washing, followed by a gentler brush-washing second stage. This gives greatly improved cleaning with a minimum of damage to the produce.

The new line was purchased in order to improve the quality and size-grading across RB Organics' entire range of products, allowing for greater efficiencies. It will more than double the potential intake of the processing capacity of the site.

Other improvements made include, raising factory ceilings, removing walls, relaying drains and water ducting. These improvements will give better product flows and allow room for increases in packing capacity.
