The Real Food Festival launched a permanent weekly trading fixture at London’s Borough retail market last Thursday.

A rolling rota of 60 producers, which will also feature as part of the Real Food Festival at London’s Earls Court from 7-10 May, will take turns to trade from the 14 places secured every Thursday. The rotation includes more than 10 fruit and vegetable traders.

Philip Lowery, founder of the Real Food Festival, told freshinfo: “It has been a pleasure to work with Borough Market and it makes a lot of sense for the Real Food Festival; Borough Market looks after food producers, what consumers want and the delivery of good food to consumers, and we are about that too.

“One thing that is key for the festival is giving small producers access to market. Some 80 per cent of the money spent on food is spent in four shops - this makes life incredibly difficult for farmers to supply food and drink.”
