Re:Fresh retailer finalists announced

The awards, being held for the first time alongside the industry's new conference event Re:Fresh on May 6, have inspired a broad range of high level entries that has delighted the judging panel.

Finalists for eight of the other 11 categories of the awards were published in last week's Journal. The accolades will be handed out at a gala awards dinner for which only a few tables remain. Delegate spaces are also being taken up rapidly for the Re:Fresh Conference and those in the trade who are interested are invited to contact either of the event organisers - Grower or Fresh Produce Journal - for more information.

The conference sessions are aimed at packers, importers, retailers and wholesalers and one of the keynote speeches will be given by Bruce Peterson, senior vice president in charge of perishables at the world's largest retailer, Wal-Mart. Peterson has spent 30 years in the grocery sector and first joined Wal-Mart in 1991 as produce director of the company's new supercentre division. He took up his present post three years ago and has also held a number of offices within the Produce Marketing Association including as chairman of its executive committee currently.

Peterson will be sharing a platform with his PMA colleague, president Brian Silbermann to present their views on produce retailing in the US.
