Apple growers are promised superior finish and reduced russeting with Regulux 10 SG, a plant growth regulator that enhances visual appeal of fruits.

Dr David Stormonth, technical manager at Interfarm (UK) Ltd, said: “Regulux improves fruit finish and reduces russets on Coxes and many other apple varieties such as Golden Delicious and Gala.

“It has been shown to increase fruit size and improve fruit shape, lending to better fruit quality and marketability.”

Russeting is a condition in which the outer epidermal layers of tissue become stretched and cracked, making the fruit look unsightly. “Regulux works by normalising the development of the epidermal cells and stimulating an even build up of the fruit’s cuticle,” said Dr Stormonth.

“Treated apples are more resistant against surface tension, preventing problems during periods of rapid growth.”
