The Freight Transport Association has appointed Dr Sharon Ryan as head of research, to cover the commission and production of data and surveys for members.

Based at headquarters in Tunbridge Wells, Dr Ryan will report to FTA’s general manager - information, Simon Chapman. The research for which she will be responsible includes a Guide to Distribution Costs and the Quarterly Transport Activity Survey, together with a range of specialist and original research work.

Chapman said: “This new post will provide FTA with the resource to develop existing information services and, in addition, to carry out the necessary in-depth analysis of industry trends, freight costs and new legislation which we need in order to underpin our policy and campaigning work.

“The economic squeeze means that managers need up-to-date information on cost factors affecting their businesses and of upcoming changes, in order to best manage their operation in the most economic and efficient fashion. FTA information services are designed to provide such support and the expansion of our staff resource in this area is a sign of our commitment to aiding our members.”
