Sainsbury's flowers get the ruffled look

Sainsbury’s is trialling a range of the in-season gladiolis this month.

The flowers are available in more than 200 stores across the country as part of a trial of the “ruffled” product from Winchester Growers.

The trial field in Spalding, Lincolnshire, will produce 400,000 stems - equivalent to 40,000 bunches.

Sainsbury’s flower technologist Robert Honeysett said: “We always work closely with our growers to get the best in-season British flowers in store. We’re very proud to be the only UK supermarket to stock the ruffled gladioli and we hope our customers will enjoy their ruffled appearance as much as we do.”

Gladioli are the biggest selling British seasonal flower throughout the summer months of July and August.

Winchester growers produce more than 15 million gladioli every summer for Sainsbury’s and have been supplying the retailer for over 12 years.
