A leading seed producer has launched a convenient new lettuce variety at Fruit Logistica 2005 - the Multileaf lettuce.
Nunhems' lettuce expert, Walter Karbowski, said the product was designed to be a simple one cut lettuce, with very little waste.
“You simply have to slice off the base of the lettuce is ready, it’s very convenient and you can use 98 per cent of the product.”
He said the Multileaf lettuce was crisp, crunchy and fresh and also benefited from a longer shelf life. The company was still tweaking the product, he added, but they would be aiming to sell it into the UK sector, both to consumers and the processing, pre-packed salad sector.
