Packaging Automation has landed a new contract with fruit and vegetable supplier Sharrocks Fresh Produce.

The Preston-based company enlisted PA after winning a contract for a new prepared vegetable range with a major retailer.

Sharrocks needed to speed up its packaging production to meet the new order, and Packaging Automation supplied it with its PA182 semiautomatic rotary table and heat-sealing machine. The system can turn potentially turn orders around in two weeks compared to the 12-week period offered by Sharrocks’ existing packaging supplier.

John Fletcher, Sharrocks' technical director said: “When we approached Packaging Automation, I must admit I wasn't sure they could deliver on time. However they delivered an excellent product, modified to pack this specific line, on time - with a totally professional service from start to finish.”

The PA182’s tools can be changed in just two minutes, and the open construction has eliminated bug traps and made the machine easy to clean to maintain high levels of hygiene. It can also accommodate larger trays with a depth of up to 100mm as standard, and can carry out both atmospheric and modified atmosphere packaging (MAP), with upgrades to the latter easily achieved.
