Soil Association makes organic wake-up call

The full English is one of Britain’s many great traditions, but for a fortnight from September 1, the Soil Association is asking people to make it organic.

As part of its Organic Fortnight, the SA is giving the public six reasons to wake up to an organic breakfast, including all the usual advantages to health and the environment, as well as emphasising the benefits to local producers.

As well as hundreds of organic breakfast events planned in cafes, hotels, restaurants, schools, clubs and on farms up and down the country, a special ‘Organic Taste Experience’ bus will be giving people the chance to sample organic food.

The association will also be publishing its annual Organic Market Report to coincide with the celebrations, which will confirm growing consumer support for organic food, drink, textiles and health and beauty products.

Robin Maynard, the campaign’s director, emphasised the importance of the event to the organic farming community: “More and more people are waking up and supporting planet-friendly farming by choosing organic food. Organic Fortnight will mobilise public support to deliver an organic wake-up call to the government.” l
