Solid sales despite heatwave

The pattern of sales recorded by the British Retail Consortium-KPMG Sales Monitor for August recorded an increase in retail sales of 2.1 per cent on a like-for-like basis, and growth of 5.1 per cent on a total basis, compared with a year earlier.

According to economics and research analyst, Nuong Trieu, the first week of August saw exceptional sales for food and drink, particularly in seasonal products such as fresh produce. However frozen food sales experienced a downturn in sales, but trading returned to usual levels as the weather started to cool.
