Somerset will be the venue for a week dedicated to allotments.

The event has been organised to tie in with National Allotment Week and takes place at Sanders GardenWorld in Brent Knoll from August 13 to 19.

Garden centre managing director Peter Burks said: “We are hosting this event to give people interested in allotments free advice on how to set up their own plot.”

During the week, visitors will be able to chat to Allan Cavill, the regional representative for The National Society of Allotment and Leisure for the South West of England, as well as see displays and take home leaflets.

Free information for visitors to pick up during the event will include information on how to obtain an allotment as well as the best ways to maintain and cultivate the plot.

National Allotment Week is organised by the National Allotment Gardens Trust and runs from August 13 to 19. It aims to raise the profile and positively promote the activity of allotment gardening and its availability to all.
