Summer temperatures good for garlic

Summer temperatures bode well for the UK garlic crop, according to specialist Colin Boswell, who runs the Garlic Shop on the Isle of Wight and sells at farmers' markets in Hampshire.

Boswell, who was the driving force behind the island's Garlic Festival, says that at this stage the crop is a fortnight ahead. This was confirmed by Robert Oldershaw Jnr, director of the Moulton Bulb Company.

MBC has open up another niche market growing and sourcing fresh green garlic to a widening range of supermarkets between June and mid September. He also revealed that the company were looking at the possibility of developing a dried bulb trade.
