Commercial crops of Israeli sweet potatoes are now arriving in the UK. Agrexco's product manager Rob Cullum said: “Supplies from the US had started to run down, so we decided to start off with nursery crops in order to maintain a continuous supply to the markets. Fortunately this risk paid off, the product was delicate but there were quick sales resulting in satisfied customers.”

The quality of the commercial crop is reported to be excellent. The skin is fully set and the virtual absence of ëeyes' makes for a very smooth potato. The fact that the crop is hand picked is also a great contributory factor. “We have been asked to supply the US market now, the demand by growers is great. However, we are unfortunately unable to do this due to import restrictions,” said Cullum.
