Carbon Trust chief executive Tom Delay has welcomed the commitment by leading UK companies in the food and drink sector to fight climate change and cut CO2 emissions.

Speaking at the Unveiling Smart Companies launch - a new £1million campaign, Delay said more companies need to get involved. He said: “UK business needs to make climate change a boardroom priority. Those that act now by cutting carbon emissions will be tomorrow’s winner, whereas those that wait are risking their future business success.”

Delay praised Asda, Somerfield, H J Heinz and Unilever Bestfoods UK among others for their efforts so far. Delay added: “These companies know that, as well as helping the environment, reducing carbon emissions can increase profitability and reduce risk. But they are still in the minority.”
