Waitrose salad harbours flower power

Waitrose has launched a new flowery salad with “floral flavours” reportedly experiencing a boom at the upmarket retailer.

The Waitrose Garden Salad with Nasturtium Leaves (£1.79 for 80g) is the UK’s first supermarket salad to contain a fiery culinary variety of Nasturtium, according to the retailer.

The launch of this salad forms part of the growing trend for edible flowers. Popular London restaurants including Daphne’s, Arbutus and Rivington Bar & Grill have all included flowers on their menus of late.

Waitrose executive chef Neil Nugent said: "Floral flavours were once considered the taste of a more mature shopper. However with girl-only dinner parties and retro afternoon teas becoming all the rage, our culinary tastes are blooming.

“Flower power has become the gastronomic must-have and the Waitrose Garden Salad with Nasturtium Leaves is bound to impress guests."
