Jack Buck Growers has announced the availability of its new-season white chicory.

Forced fresh from its darkrooms in Spalding, the company says now is the optimum time to experience the unique freshness and flavour of the versatile winter salad.

Chicory, also referred to as Endive, has a unique texture and numerous health benefits, according to the specialist vegetable grower.

It contains a carbohydrate made from inulin, a naturally-occurring polymer which releases energy slowly. Inulin is also fermented in the gut, promoting the growth of the good bacteria.

Its versatility means it can be used in a range of ways, from hearty winter meals to chic party canapés, or an elegant starter for Christmas lunch, the company said.
