US fresh potato traders have tried a number of avenues to get their produce into China, according to the US National Potato Council (NPC).

The US Trade Representative (USTR) asked members of the Agricultural Policy Advisory Committee (APAC) to provide data on Chinese compliance with WTO trade regulations.

China only joined the WTO in 2001. Fresh potatoes have been slow to get approval for import.

The NPC said it had been working with China on their pest risk concerns and had tried several strategies to enter the market.
