Peruvian authorities have announced blueberries have gained access to Malaysia while India has also granted access to blueberries and citrus.
The National Agrarian Health Service (SENASA) of Peru’s Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) reported the agriculture departments of both countries have confirmed the phytosanitaryrequirements for the import of these fruits.
SENASA said Peruvian blueberry producers will be allowed to start exporting blueberries to Malaysia in 2021, subject to the protocol.
'We remain committed to the agricultural development of the country, this time, with access to new markets for national fruit production, providing our farmers with more market opportunities and alternatives for marketing,' said Miguel Quevedo Valle, head of SENASA.
In India, the government published the phytosanitary requirements for the import of Peruvian citrus fruits (orange, grapefruit, mandarin and lemon) and fresh blueberries following a public consultation period.
SENASAnoted the growing opportunities for Peruvian products in India, as growing population rates would increase the consumer demand for fresh agricultural products in what is already the world’s second most populous country.
