Philippine banana farmers are arguing in the SupremeCourt for their right to continue crop dusting, the latest step in along-running legal battle, according to Inquirer.net.

A group of environmentalists took the issue to court inMarch last year, obtaining an ordinance banning the use of aerial fungicidearound Davao, on the island of Mindanao.

The group claimed the spraying had caused health problemsin the city of 1.2m people, and had poisoned the local water table.

The ban was upheld in an appeals court in September, butwas overturned in January, and growers resumed spraying.

The Philippines is Asia's biggest exporter of bananas, with production focused on Mindanao.
