Primary Industries & Regions South Australia (PIRSA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Singapore’s trade agency Spring to collaborate on food innovation technology.

The MoU will see the South Australia Food Innovation Centre and the Singapore Food Innovation Cluster working together to build the food manufacturing industries in both countries.

Spring deputy chief executive Ted Tan told the Strait Times that they were looking forward to building capabilities in emerging areas of innovation, including functional food and reducing food waste.

"Singapore SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) can access new food technologies and processing methods to accelerate the development of innovative products," Tan said.

“It will also offer a launch pad for Australian companies entering the Asia market, creating win-win partnership opportunities with our SMEs.” 

"This MoU will enable South Australia and Singapore to learn from each other's efforts in food innovation by targeting a number of key focus areas, including research and development, commercialisation, product development, packaging innovation, and technology and knowledge exchange,” added PIRSA deputy chief executive Mehdi Doroudi.

The MoU was signed during the South Australian government’s business mission to Singapore this week.
