Farmer.live is an online platform designed to benefit India’s busy agricultural trade. Through 11 years working as a software engineer, Balamurali Govindan created the platform in a bid to solve issues of oversupply and accessibility.

“This platform facilitates the farmer to sell his produce without any intervention by middlemen. We have over 10,000 registered farmers and buyers on this platform, over one-lakh (100,000) Facebook followers, 20,000+ mobile app downloads and 100+ companies registered till date. The hit rate on our website is over 10,000 a month, notwithstanding App visitors,” Govindan told The Hindu Business Line.

Users in Tamil Nadu are able to access information like daily market pricing, best practices, weather forecasting, and warehouse facilities sent straight to their mobile phones. The service is free for growers, sellers, buyers, and Farm Producer Organisations.

Govindan said they are looking to expand the platform to other states in India, with Karnataka next on the list.

“We have initiated measures to provide information in 13 languages, [and] exporters too have registered on this platform,” said Govindan.

The platform, and its sister portal Agri-companies.live, and iCharitable.org are products of Govindan’s social enterprise business, Tara Blooms.
