Kenya avos

Kenya exported 72,000 tonnes of avocados last year, up from 59,000 tonnes recorded in 2019, according Xinhua, which cites an unnamed Kenyan government official.

In a seprate interview with Xinhua, Benjamin Tito, head of the Horticultural Crops Directorate, said the increase in export volumes was “partly due to enhanced cultivation of avocado by Kenyan farmers over the past five years.”

Europe is one of the Kenya's major markets for avocados and took the lion share of fruit.

A small volume was exported to China, with Xinhua reporting Kenyan exporters continued to work on meeting the conditions set by the Chinese government to warrant the exports of avocados in large quantities.

The aforementioned official said Kenya had restricted exports of avocados between November and January every year in order to maintain the quality of avocados to prevent premature harvesting.
