Horticulture Research International has announced plans for a series of open days and seminars at HRI Kirton this year. The events are designed to provide growers with an opportunity to view the latest research and development work at HRI and discuss findings with industry scientists as well as to see trials and demonstrations relevant to their sphere of business.

The carrot and parsnip open day will be held in late August or early September. It will cover pest control and will feature HRI and industry speakers as well as field demonstrations.

Summer salad growers will be welcomed in mid to late July to view HRI's work on salad crops focusing on breeding for disease and pest control. HRI will be organising a range of demonstrations for the day.

And in late June or early July, HRI will be hosting vegetable growers and farmers to an event on vegetable crop production without pesticides including organic production. The main environmental and conservation issues of modern farming practices will also be covered.

A brassica growers' walk is also being planned for mid-October and an onion and leek study day for the winter.

Dates will be announced shortly and further details are available from Robin Wood at HRI Kirton. l
