The ships were sold as one lot for more than $50million, fresh produce multinational Chiquita said in a statement. Great White Fleet will charter two of the ships back under a two-year time charter.

'The director class ships have been performing extremely well for us,' said Jeffrey Brown of the Great White Fleet and Chiquita Logistics. 'We simply find ourselves in the enviable situation where, due to market grwoth, the directors are slightly undersized for many of our banana services.' The deal benefits Star as it enhances and modernises its fleet. The company will take delivery of the vessels before year-end.
