Could genetic engineering in New Zealand dent Zespri's marketing effort?

According to a report in the New Zealand Herald, Zespri has told the NZ government that it does not want the genetic engineering moratorium lifted in October. The grower-owned export company said its world-wide marketing effort is based on New Zealand's "clean, green" image and lifting the genetic engineering ban could jeopardise its position.

The report quoted Zespri ceo Tim Goodacre saying he was concerned the market perception of Zespri's kiwifruit could change if genetic engineering was introduced in New Zealand.
