Three labour providers to the fresh produce trade have taken speedy steps to remedy the situation, having fallen foul of the Gangmasters Licensing Authority (GLA).

West Midlands labour provider RP Employment Agency Ltd had its licence revoked by the GLA when the firm withdrew its appeal against the GLA decision to revoke the licence, as did P&M Groundworks Ltd, based in Rotherham, and Field Force GB, based in Spalding.

All three firms have since been granted a new licence after reapplying and demonstrating that the issues that led to revocation had been resolved.

Paul Whitehouse, chairman of the GLA, said: “The GLA will continue to seek out labour providers operating without a licence. But this action should serve as a warning to licence holders that they need to keep standards up.”
