Celebrity chef Steven Walpole has joined Gate Gourmet, the UK’s leading airline service company, as senior executive chef to British Airways.

Walpole, of BBC Saturday Kitchen and BBC UK Food and Discovery Health’s Kids Fit Squad fame, will bring his flair, passion and commitment to healthy eating to

Gate Gourmet’s BA first-class menus and will work with the company’s team of chefs to deliver a menu.

“I am looking forward to new challenges of designing appetising and healthy meals in an industry that is not traditionally known for the quality of its food,” said Walpole. “With the team at Gate Gourmet I am confident that I can bring something new to menus that are already top of their class.”

Walpole taught a group of Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen students for the TV programme, regularly lectures on childhood obesity, runs workshops on healthy eating for children and is consultant chef to the charity HOPE.

Tim Cocker, commercial director UK & Ireland at Gate Gourmet, said: “We are pleased to have attracted a talent such as Steven to join our already excellent team. Steven will help Gate Gourmet to push the boundaries of airline food, using the very best people and the finest and freshest ingredients to develop menus that match offerings in top restaurants whilst also reflecting the health needs of our passengers.”
