Hot on the heels of the launch of the first English strawberries in Waitrose, the supermarket will be the first to market with English-grown raspberries as they land on shelves from tomorrow (28 March).
For the first time, customers will be able to enjoy British-grown raspberries in March, just in time for Easter entertaining.
Grown in Chichester, West Sussex, by long-term Waitrose supplier Harry Hall, the berries are grown in glasshouses and then harvested by hand, before being sent off to Waitrose shops across the country.
Hall is the same supplier who provided Waitrose with the first strawberries of the season earlier this month.
Waitrose’s raspberry buyer, Nicki Baggott, said: “This is the first time we’ve been able to offer British-grown raspberries so early in the year. It’s incredibly unusual to have these ready in March, but a combination of growing techniques and the perfect weather have meant we can sell these juicy delights earlier than ever.'
