Brassica grower TH Clements has sacked one of its farm workers after a member of the public saw him urinating in a field.

The worker was photographed apparently urinating on plants in one of the company’s Lincolnshire fields, despite the fact there was a toilet less than 18 metres away.

After being alerted by a member of the public who had reportedly filmed the incident, Clements sacked the worker with immediate effect for “failing to follow company procedures”.

A spokesman for the company said: “We terminated the services of the individual worker as he failed to follow company procedures which request that all workers use the toilets provided.

“Despite the fact that a toilet was less than 18 metres away from him, he decided to urinate in the field rather than use the toilet.

“Although he did not urinate on the crops, this does not excuse him from his actions.”

The spokesperson added: “Urine is virtually sterile when it leaves the human body, it does not carry any bacteria, it has been used by avid growers for years as it is very high in nitrogen.”

TH Clements is a leading brassica grower and multiple retail supplier with more than 9,000 acres across Lincolnshire and Cornwall.
